Today we will be deviating away from our usual accounting topics and talk about a marketing tool that almost all small businesses use: Telemarketing. At Accounting Plus Business Services, we have experienced the ups and the downs of telemarketing, and have generated 7 tips for you to differentiate yourself from the rest.

  1. Be Positive
    Have a smile when you are telemarketing! And most importantly, be in the right mood because your mood can transfer over to the person on the other end. Even if the person you called is responding rudely, stay positive. Your positivity will prevent you from feeling negative, and ultimately leave a good impression on those you call.
  2. Be honest
    Honesty attracts people. The majority of telemarketers try to overemphasize the advantages of their product or service and hide the shortcomings, and this creates a shield between you and your potential buyer. Be honest and you will be able to build up a lot more trust!
  3. Get to the point
    Business owners are busy and don’t have time for stories. Catch their attention by sticking to the point and talking clearly.
  4. Have a conversation
    It’s not a good sign if the person on the phone thinks you are reading from a script. Know the points you want to cover and talk naturally.
  5. Target the right market
    Before you start calling people or businesses, define your target market. For example, you can target an area in the city or business industry that you think are more interested in your products or services. This way, you will increase the chances of getting positive responses from prospects.
  6. It’s all timing
    Timing is an important point that telemarketers should consider. Research the best times to call the industry you are targeting.
  7. Don’t push too hard
    People won’t respond positively if you push your product on them. Be relaxed and know that people will buy your product or service if they need it.
